ARTIST INFO

One man who, if anyone does, qualifies for the title of “legendary” must surely be Dr. Motte. An original through and through, this DJ, producer and remixer from the original vanguard of technos few pioneering souls initiated and successfully staged what became the biggest cultural celebration of music, tolerance, love and indeed life itself, that the world has ever seen: the Love Parade.

Even with such achievments to his credit, Dr. Motte has stayed true to his ideals, true to the 'underground' that has been his home for decades. By his chosen way of life, he remains attuned to and a part of that all important zeitgeist. Now like then, he stands for peace, love, unity and respect.

His sound is sophisticated, energetic and multi-faceted. He combines thrilling Acid sounds and rousing club grooves with driving Techno beats and takes his audience on a thrilling trip through his universe.

BIOGRAPHY

Up until 1989 Matthias Roeingh a.k.a. Dr. Motte led a relatively low-key life. Born in Spandau in 1960 he tiptoed through the scene; from 1981 – 1984 with his band ‘Toten Piloten’ (dead pilots), a Berlin Funk band. And in 1985, even before techno music appeared, he had already replaced his drum set for turntables and a DJ mixer to expand the opportunities of his musical self-realization.

In his then club 'Turbine Rosenheim' he gained skills and developed his very own style of mixing for which he drew from his extensive repertoire of jazz, punk, funk, soul, disco and EBM. Like no other he tied all these genres together by a common thread. And just in this club, only two years later, he organized the first acid house parties in Berlin.

As co-founder of the cult label 'Space Teddy Recordings' he released his first electronic music album 'Chill Out Planet Earth' in 1992, under the pseudonym Dr. Mottes Euphorhythm. In the same year, he also came up with another record that became one of the most important German releases ever because it finally leveraged Berlins electronic music to an international success: 3Phase feat. Dr. Motte – 'Der Klang der Familie' (Tresor Records, Tresor 6).

This high-flying cooperation of Dr. Motte and co-procucers has been followed by many more amazing artists such as Robert Babicz, Gabriel Le Mar, Tom Wax, Westbam, Namito, 3 Phase, Johnny Klimek, Paul Browse, Marc Van Linden, DJ Dag etc.

Back in time... 1989. Before Dr. Motte became successful with his music productions and remixes he had put an idea into action that would write a new chapter in hinstory of music: A demonstration to represent the contemporary culture of electronic dance music, called „Love Parade“.

Techno culture envolved into the most important youth movement of the 90s – the Love Parade rose to its official unofficial holiday. In only 10 years, the number of its participants grew rapidly from 150 people to the legendary peak of 1.5 million ravers who peacefully danced together on the Strasse

des 17. Juni in Berlin (street of the 17th of June). Also the DJ set and the speeches of Dr. Motte at the closing rally at the Victory Column became legenday and a solid tradition of the Love Parade.

Despite the overwhelming success of the event, Dr. Motte remained true to his clear musical path and the spirit of inception. After the sale of the brand 'Love Parade' in November 2005 and the parade in the following summer, he ceased cooperation with the new management for content and idealistic reasons and dissociated himself publicly.

Dr. Motte used the freed-up capacities to focus on new projects and goals. He toured around the globe, playing at the most important festivals and clubs in the world. The Goethe-Intitute Munich invited him to Nanjing (Eastern China) as a representative of German electronic music to „Deutschlandpromenade 2007“ (Germany Esplanade 2007).

With the self-image of a sound-researcher on continuous hunt for the new he founded his record label PRAXXIZ, in 2010. Consistently uncompromising as expected, Dr. Motte releases music that reflects his personal taste and understanding of high-quality electronic music. The FAZE Magazine reviewed the "Best Of PRAXXIZ" CD–compilation (2013) with the phrase: "With the sounds of modernity, PRAXXIZ preserves the spirit of 'then' for the future."

In 2015, Dr. Motte celebrated 30 years of Djing, with an international tour, under the banner of the name he gave to the first ever Love Parade: FRIEDE. FREUDE. EIERKUCHEN. (Peace, joy, pancakes). His touring schedule took him to Australia (again in cooperation with the Goethe- Institute), India, China, the Netherlands, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Austria, Switzerland... and Germany, of course.
